Growing up as a child I have encountered numerous people who have made a significant impact in my educational life. I absolutely hated to read. When I started elementary school I struggled to read books. My kindergarten teachers Mrs. Stover and Mr. Brown would always send me home with reading assignments. Over the course of the last few centuries, Christianity has been a driving force in the development of western culture. From igniting Crusades in the Middle Ages to introducing new words to the English vocabulary, the Christian religion has had a considerable influence on every aspect of the western culture known today; arguably, the arts and literature specifically were the most heavily impelled by Christianity. As Thomas C. Foster states in his book How to Read Like a Professor, writers of all forms of media are at least aware of the stories of the Bible, and use them in their works, whether it be a story structure or the names of people in biblical anecdotes. Because of this, it is interesting to notice that most classic novels (and even present works) use the idea of Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, in their narratives to create new yet familiar characters. Nathaniel Hawthorne…

In article “So you’ve got a Writing Assignment” Corrine Hinton said “When getting a writing assignment, you should read it more than once just to get knowledge of what they are really asking for”. At age five, we learn the alphabet, learn songs to remember each letter, and know it backwards and forwards. At age 6, we are learning sight words and reading small sentences and passages. By age 7, we are taught how to read very simple stories, which eventually turn into small chapter books, then larger books, until we're eventually reading great novels written by the greatest minds in history, such as Aristotle, Victor Hugo, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, and Jules Verne. However, once we reach a certain point, we stop learning how to read, and become satisfied with simply understanding words and phrases.…

    A. Autobiographical Statement My mother was the first and only person in her family to graduate from college, which has always been an inspiration to me. She was an abused wife on food stamps, raising two children on her own while my father was incarcerated. It was then that I understood my childhood was not my choice, but how I choose to live the rest of my life was. My mother never wavered in her faith that if I wanted to do something in my life the only thing that could hold me back was myself.…
