Although there is always one social network site that is popular around the world at a time, some people choose to stick to their region’s social media. “In the middle of 2005, Orkut and Hi5 are popular among adults in Brazil and India, MySpace was popular among teenagers in the United States, Friendster was popular among users in Singapore, Philipines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Tagworld, Bebo, Piczo, Faceparty, and Mixi are popular among users in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. QQ and Cyworld are popular in China and South Korea,” (boyd, 5). Users choose to use the social media that is famous in their region because that is what most people use to connect with each other. For example, most of the people in Malaysia were using Friendster in 2005. If I am the only one who was using the other social network site such as MySpace, I will only befriend with strangers. There are no people on MySpace that I know. Thus, there will be no fun in using that social media site. So, I will just stick to using Friendster to keep me connected with my friends.
