"At the age of 14, her father took custody of her, and brought her to Tennessee, where she attended high school " (Sandra 2011). After high school, she moved on to get her degree in Speech Communications and Performing Arts and worked as a Nashville radio reporter. Oprah once said, "Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your shoes, and dance" (Winfrey, 2003). The significance of this metaphor, is that it tells people to forget the past, as well as negatives in life, and to form a great future for themselves. This quote all comes down to her life, since at the beginning of her life, she had all the negative thoughts and feelings towards herself, but later on, when she was under her father 's custody, she got her life back together again and eventually became a successful celebrity. The breathing of her life was when she was with her father, while the kicking off shoes and dancing part of her life was when she went on to be a talk show host. As inferred in the metaphor, she did not let the obstacles of her life take over her passions and dreams. This quote relates to her philosophies of life, by showing people, once you get your life under control, anything is possible in life. Poverty and sexual abuse could have taken Oprah to the dark sides of life,
