Martin Luther King, Jr was born on January 15, 1929 in Georgia as Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin. As a person of colour, MLK suffered from discrimination and racism. Throughout his educational career, MLK attended a segregated school. Following his family’s path, MLK became a pastor at the Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation. MLK always protested against segregation and was a past of demonstrations of the civil right movement. MLK preached for nonviolent resistance and he gave many speeches that influenced the whole nation, and one of the most famous speeches he gave is “I have a dream” speech.

MLK gave many speeches persuading people to not use violence to attain their rights. He wanted black people to break unlawful laws and willingly receive the punishment. MLK’s style in delivering a speech helped him a lot, as well as his ability to control his voice tone and choose basic but embellished words in his speech made him give effective persuasive speeches that can be reached and understood by all Americans. His passion and strong belief in what he preached for made his speeches emotional and heart-touching.
