The topic of this source is that media such as television and film are more than just economic sectors, but rather a major influence upon our worldviews and attitudes. This is evident within the source when the speaker says “...undercut our sense of identity as individuals or as citizens of nations.” This symbolizes how films and television have the ability to change worldviews within a population. More and more people in today’s modern culture are becoming subjected to messages and themes that the media want you to become influenced by. Firstly, they do this by using subliminal messages such as product placement to influence tendences like your buying habits. Secondly, they target children as they are the most influential population by using messages in movies and television programs. Lastly, the media influences how we believe we should appear in society to be considered acceptable by promoting unrealistic standards of the human …show more content…
Children are an especially important population to the media because if a child is constantly being exposed to the same message over and over again, the child will continue to grow up embracing the message put forth by the media and believing it to be truth. This idea is demonstrated in the source when the speaker states “ ...create new notions of style and behavior…” This represents how television and film are changing the way children and teens are conducting themselves in both public and private situations. An example of this is how teens being exposed to more sexual content tend to become more sexually active at younger ages. A study put out by the University of Missouri had 1228 youth aged 12-14 report which movies they had seen, choosing from randomly selected lists of 50 top-grossing films from 1998 to 2004. The movies were then evaluated for the amount of sexual content that they contained.

Six years later, the participants were surveyed to find out how old they were when they became sexually active and how risky their sexual behavior might have
