She was born into slavery in Maryland and experienced harsh beatings and cruelty. In 1849 Harriet decided to flee slavery and she ended up in philadelphia. She was the only person to try and escape and wasn’t afraid to do so. She showed no weakness. While others were worried for themselves, Harriet found an easy solution. She decided to change the pathway to end in Canada where they were safe and there was no chance of getting sent back. She also served as a nurse, spy and an armed scout during the civil war. On March 10, 1913 Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia.
Harriet Tubman was a leader who wasn’t afraid to fight for the slaves. She stayed strong and never showed weakness of returning. Everyone else was to scared to escape because of what the consequences would be if they got caught. However Harriet did not care, she knew what had to be done, and she knew what was right. This is why I think Harriet is deserving of the title, “Great”. Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, and Harriet Tubman are all similar, they were all confident and persistent on what they wanted to happen to this world. They fought long and hard to become successful, but they eventually achieved their goals and that is what makes them so great. These people were able to step out of what is normal and make a change that impacted the world back then all the way to present day.
