This is a low budget TV show about two guys that travel around the country trying to help numerous people meet their partner that they have been talking to on online dating sites. These people that the show Catfish help usually are lost or searching for love and dont know their partner or that person they are talking to online other than a few photos and their profile having short description to prove that they are real. Catfish emphasizes that a virtual relationship online can be dangerous because a person never knows exactly who they’re talking to. Like a situation I had when I was about seventeen I met this amazing girl online and really started to like her. After a few months of talking, we finally decided to meet in person and me being excited about this I quickly arrange something and tell her we can at the movies. Later that evening I drive to the movie theater we decided to meet at and waited awhile for this girl, and then I get a random message on Facebook that says my pictures on my Facebook aren’t of me. I look at the message for a little bit to try and contemplate my thought process and soon realized that I’ve been Catfished. I realize the girl I was supposed to meet didn’t resemble any picture on her Facebook it was completely fake. This life changing event of being cat fished is a good example of the dangers that the show Catfish exploits. Bringing forth the idea that online dating can be a dangerous thing Catfish has evolved around these fake profiles and fake identities to fit their show. Introducing a new age of identity impersonation Catfish seems to figure out if the person is fake early on to try and avoid a wasted trip. There are some times when some people actually agree to meet even though they know that they’ve been impersonating someone else.
