Movie Posters Analysis Essay

Movies have become a major part of today’s time and culture. Not only are movies for entertainment, but they also represent a part of the time when it was filmed and created, whether it was in a time of war or love. Movies can also have a significant influence on somebody’s life and help shape them or improve on a certain part of themselves as they try to embody some of that character’s attributes. However, to get the knowledge out about upcoming movies they create posters. A lot of thought and effort is put into these posters because they want to bring in as much money as they can and therefore considered an advertisement. The color scheme is dark, there is a brightness and light being emitted from behind the wand causing a shadow to be thrown across the two faces. Because of the wands placement in the middle of the movie poster it further divides the two characters and a conflict is going to happen. With the background being cloud-like and also being dark, but having light on them from the wand, shows that this has been going on for a while and it is a very dark time when this battle is going to take place, both physically and theoretically. This only further emphasizes the battle that is going to take place between light and dark, or the good and the bad. There is also the faint color of red at the bottom that resemble ashes. This has the sense of a fire and possibly danger, but not entirely since what is causing the red flecks cannot be seen. This resembles the destruction that can be going on around them, since they a battle is about to begin. Continuing on the track of the wand, not only tells the viewer that the film will be about magic, but the wand is actually the main focus of the movie and is severely powerful. While just a simple glance at the poster can tell the viewer that the story will be about a battle because of the color scheme, the minimal text wants the viewer to remember the picture, and the division and focus of the poster sets in stone the idea that there will be a battle and also that there will be magic involved. However, when looking closer the viewer sees more of what the movie will be about and also the past movies as well. Because of the lighting, the wand becomes the focal point and has emphasis put on it. Then the minimal text implies that they have met before, but this time there is only one that will come out alive. Another thing this poster hides is the title, showing that it is not needed because the two character’s story is so well known, the title is not needed, just a small blurb and the release date. So, when the viewer was interested in battles between the good and the bad, magic, and a struggle, this movie would have been on the viewer’s list to see based on the
