As shown in a study conducted by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) women are still paid on average, 79% less than their male counterparts. Stanton would be appalled to know that even after all of these years’ women are still not considered to be equal to men! Today many women are still fighting to close the wage gap and to ensure equal treatment of women. Historically men are thought to be the stronger, smarter, and breadwinners of the household but in today’s society more women are beginning to hold higher positions all over the country. In the upcoming election, we may even have a female candidate! Stanton would be very pleased that a woman would even be able to think of running to be president of the United States. But until the gender has no effect on pay, or job status, Stanton’s battle is not entirely won. Without Stanton’s courage women would not be where they are today nor have the courage to continue the fight for equal rights. Stanton shaped the minds and hearts of many women in America and this attitude will continue throughout the country for years to
