For instance, social media and personal cell phones have made it easy since people post stories or pictures of what they are doing at that instant. Because of social media being like the modern day newspaper, the general public is more likely to becoming aware of an event that is going on across the world in less an a few mins ago. Social media can also become an issue since people can develop an impulse to always make a post of what they are doing and it will end up interrupting an experience. For example, when out for dinner and someone is trying to take the right picture of their food to post on Instagram and their food being too cold by the time they eat it. Not only does it become a distraction, but can potentially become dangerous, since there are so many different types of people on the internet. Once information is out to the masses of people on the internet there is not much control on what others do with their information. They can potentially stalk them, find out exactly where they are at, and this can reduce the sense of security that the person affected would have. In addition, now in days some people don’t even have house phones so their cell phone becomes their only source from where they are being contacted from. Have you ever noticed how when in line waiting to pay for something everyone is always looking down on their phones? No one is ever engaging in a conversation with a nearby stranger. Always checking for the latest update on twitter becomes priority over having a conversation, not only with a stranger even with their spouse, friend or relative. Felsen says how it was nearly impossible for him to sit through dinner with his wife without having to check his phone. Even when his wife was in the middle of telling him something important, he just couldn’t resist checking the screen for new notifications of who liked his recent post. She noticed this and demanded “What is so important?” it seemed like he was ashamed by his actions because he knew he had no good answer for her question. Being consumed with using electronics causes people to spend less time interacting with people around them.
