The American Dream is believed to be the chance at an, “equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.” Some believe that the American Dream is not a realistic goal for many Americans, while I believe that the American Dream is alive and well in 2016. Many people still believe in the American Dream and claim it is still viable. For example, In 2004, Barack Obama, as an Illinois State Senator, gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention that gave many hope the American Dream is still alive. It was anticipative about the American Dream when he talked about America as a magical place and that “through hard work and perseverance,” America, “stood as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to so many who had come before.”
