Marketing and advertisements have allowed for the inequality between men and women. As time progresses, the sexual objectification of gender has become weaved into our society’s culture. As many who study under the branches of Communications, Media and Marketing, they have become no stranger to the objectification of women in the media. The submissiveness of women can also lead to the consideration as how men are perceived through the eyes of one’s individual gender. Fashion advertisements especially ones targeted towards women can also play a role on the male psyche as perceiving the characteristic of how a man should be and act within our society. The common question “What makes a man?” has been embedded through society for years before it’s establishment in popular culture. Manhood has always been defined by traditional qualities such as strength, courage, sexual potency and other traits that should define as to who a man is. The hegemony of gender has allowed men to be the dominant and privileged gender of society and allowing a dominant social position of men and the subordinate role to women. Goffman states that floors are associated with been less clean and subordinate in comparison to a advertisement of someone sitting in a chair or standing.
