Development of valuable, rare, and inimitable capabilities has enabled the firm to sustain the competitive advantage in the rival industry (Exhibit 8). As mentioned earlier, Mobileye has created value by increasing customer’s willingness to buy, and it can set higher prices than competitors, which is a rare capability. Besides, Mobileye has isolating mechanisms to prevent rivals from imitating competitive advantage of the firm. First, it has early-mover advantage because of learning curve, reputation, and switching costs of buyer. Mobileye has made bigger volumes of output, which allowed getting lower variable costs than competitors. It has built reputation over the years on the market through expansive testing, so buyers don’t have just uncertainty about different brands but they will face switching costs due to developed knowledge to specifically Mobileye’s technology.
