To begin, the Industrial Revolution was more negative because of child labor. During this time period, children were used in factories to help with production. During the Industrial Revolution, living conditions in the city were awful. For example, “The streets are usually unpaved full of holes, filthy, and strewn with refuse” (Engels). This proves that the city was a dirty place. People had to travel on the streets that were unpaved. Also, people had to travel on roads where they would dump their waste. Waste contains all sorts of bacteria which makes people sick and sick often. Another example is, “The main river is narrow, coal-black and full of stinking filth and rubbish which it deposits on its dbank” (Engels). This shows that living in cities was tough. The quote says that the main river was filled with waste, coal, and filth. People could not drink this water because it was contaminated so people had to find a new water source. If they were to drink from the water, then the people would become very sick. This proves that because of the harsh living conditions, the Industrial Revolution was more negative.
Some people may argue that with the Industrial Revolution came improved technology. For example, they contend that, the steam boat provided reliable transportation. While it is true that inventions like the steam boat provided reliable transportation the fact of the matter is is that illnesses, child labor, and awful living conditions made people die everyday during this time
