The Industrial Revolution was a time period between the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain. Industrial Revolution means a rapid development of industry, which introduced machinery to our world. During this time period, the economic system was capitalism, which is characterized by private property, competition, profit, self-interest, and limited government running the people. The Industrial Revolution has changed our world, as we know it today through economic and social effects, technology innovation, and productivity increases. In the early 18th century people were still using hand tools to create what they needed to get by in life. They hand made everything from clothes to materials needed to grow their own crops and transport their food from place to place on their farms. The rapidly growing industry in the 1800’s caused, “Dramatic changes in the social and economic structure took place as inventions and technological innovations created the factory system of large-scale machine production…” (St. Rosemary). Some economic effects included new inventions and the development of factories. “…Economic activities in many communities moved from agriculture to manufacturing and production shifted from its traditional locations in the home and the small workshops to factories” (St. Rosemary).
