The Industrial Revolution started early 1800s with Britain having a head start then France later Germany and the United States emerged as two new industrial powers. “Britain tried to by enforce strict rules against exporting inventions” (242) to protect their head start. For a while, the rules worked. A while after, Belgium started making the same products in their factories as the ones that Britain had for example “Willman Cockerill opened factories in Belgium to manufacture spinning and weaving machines” (242) these two countries had large supplies of coal, iron and other resources than Britain, which helped them become the new industrial leaders and they borrowed Britain's experts and technology.
