IEP For Special Education

An IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is a document that is created for students who are eligible for Special Education (NJ Department of Education) Under IDEA Act, the federal law that guarantees all children with disabilities, have the right to have access to a “free and appropriate public education” This individualized plan address the child unique learning disabilities; and the district, and the school, has the obligation to implement it. Students who have problems in math, language arts, or any other subject could be eligible for Special Education. Before this plan is implemented, students should take an evaluation and this one has to be requested for student’s parents, teacher, and counselors. The child Study Team, is the group that evaluates the students in different aspects, and decides what type of modifications or accommodations are necessary for the students, in order to be successful. He refuse to follow his schedule, participate in class, and follow teachers instructions in classes. For this type of behavior, the document explain that the teacher should implement a positive support intervention using a reward system, a behavior log, and give constant feedbacks that reinforce his positive behaviors. He is generally able to receive all his points and as a result he receives a bonus of free time at the end of the day. After these recommendations, the student will receive the academic goals that will guide the teacher to give the correct support. Also, these students are eligible for extended school year where he is going to receive the IEP recommendations. As a conclusion, the IEP is a document that guide and ensure the students learning process no matter their condition. Is protected by a federal law, the not Child Left Behind, and will help students with special needs to be successful in a general education
