Along his pathway Charlie Trotter had many significant memories in his culinary achievements. In August 17, 1987 Charlie Trotter opens his first restaurant in Chicago with the support of his father. He was only twenty-eight years old. Charlie Trotter restaurant was considered one of the outstanding dining establishments in the world. A year later his restaurant tense to become the first American restaurant with a table suited in the kitchen so guest can watch how the food was prepared in front of them. It eventually became a trend that many restaurants start to have the chef’s table in their establishments. Also during the same year he created a degustation only menu format. In culinary terms which means tasting or savorin carefully on small portions of dish samples that the chef creates. In 1992 Trotter wins his first James beard Award, but that’s not the only award that he had received. Trotter’s restaurant had won plenty of awards. In 1994 he publish his first book “Charlie Trotter’s” and has a total of fourteen books. In 1997 Trotter host his own cooking TV show on PBS called “Kitchen Sessions”. He is also known for his support on international and national charities. In 1999 he introduces his first charity, the “Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation”. According to grubstreet.com “Trotter would invite high school students around the area to dine at his restaurant in an effort to expose them to the culinary field.” Then a year later he opened up a take out restaurant “Trotter’s to go” in Chicago. He also opened up a bar and a restaurant in Las Vegas but it got closed after two years of business. According to starchefs.com “ President Bush and Colin Powell awarded Charlie at the white house for his work with the foundation and was named one of only five “heroes” to be honored by Colin Powell’s charity”. In addition in January 2012 he received an award for “Humanitarian of the Year.” Later on that same year he received another award with an honorary street by the city of Chicago according to grubstreet.com.
