Question 1 (practical experience)
What is your knowledge of the beach and surf environment? Please give details of any previous experience of lifeguarding, lifesaving and first aid.

My family has had a beach hut at sandbanks since before I was born and therefore a lot of my time in the summer growing up was spent at the beach. Also, for about a year I attended a junior lifeguarding club twice a week at the Poole Dolphin Centre, and on numerous occasions we went to the beach in the evening to do some lifeguard training on the beach and in the sea. For example, we were given rescue paddleboard training in the sea. As well as this, there was a theoretical side to the clubs training and for the first half hour of each Thursday session we learnt

Teamwork is of huge importance in a team sport such as rugby and every coach I have played for has always emphasized that the team is more important than the individual. When playing rugby for my club, school or county, as I got closer with my teammates we all started to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the people around us which is a huge benefit. For example, if I knew that a particular member of your team has a weakness when it comes to tackling, often I would try and cover behind them in defense. Obviously everyone has their role within a team, not just by playing a set position on the pitch but also playing a key role in training as well as getting motivated and prepared before matches. As I had some experience in personal training and good knowledge about body anatomy, I led the warm up before training sessions and games for my club which was key in making sure all members of the team were fully prepared and preventing …show more content…
In this role I often needed to communicate with the other members of my team, for example at the start of every weekly meeting I would have to tell everybody what their task was for that meeting, such as designing the product packaging or doing market research. An example of when I had to influence others was when I was the lead speaker of our team presenting our product to company leaders from HSBC, JP Morgan, Virgin money and others; demonstrating my ability to portray complex information to a large audience. In order to do this successfully, first I needed to do some research into who was going to be in the audience so that I could plan a presentation that would be suited to them; in this case the target audience meant that the presentation needed to be very formal and present information such as previous sales figures and an in depth analysis of the costs of making our product. Therefore because of this I used a PowerPoint presentation listing all of these details making it easier to present the information to the

In Roxane Gay’s article “Why the Beach Is a Bummer” she explains her outlook on the beach and why it’s a place of discomfort rather than fun. “This is an ideal beach of hot sun, warm sand, crystal-clear water that leaves your skin salted. But it is all too often a mirage”(Gay) the beach isn’t always a place for everyone, and the expectations of the beach often leave people let down or disappointed. As much as I do love the beach and enjoy laying in the sun I agree with Gay’s perspective of the beach to an extent.…

Pitman set the precedent for the Owen Case, which prevented the use of navigational servitude as an argument against their case.…

Ipperwash Beach has been my home away from home for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include getting thrown off the inner tube into waves so big they could swallow me whole, campfires that my grandfather would build rain or shine, just so we could get that perfect bedtime treat and a sun burning so bright I thought the sweet summer would never end. As far as I was concerned, Ipperwash Beach was a magical place that couldn’t do any wrong. From a young age, I can remember the whispers and lingering stares I received when I would mention to a camp counsellor or adult family friend that it was almost time to go to the beach.…
