English courses provide the basic skills needed for writing and verbal communication in other college courses. The style and format used for writing in this course will attribute to success in the necessary writing during future courses needed to earn my degree. Since quality written communication skills lead to quality verbal skills, these skills will also be beneficial for college interviews. Once I obtain an Associates degree in general studies, I plan to move forward towards a Bachelor’s degree and eventually a Masters of Social Work degree. Acceptance into the programs needed for my degree will depend on an interview process amongst various other factors. Even from the beginning of searching for employment these skills are necessary. The first impression made on a potential employer is the cover letter and resume. The quality of written communication skills that I have learned in this course will guide me in constructing a cover letter that is compelling and professional. I am also able to write a resume that is clear, organized, and free of spelling and grammatical errors. Once hired, social work requires extensive written documentation. This written documentation can range from emails, to case specific reports, to referrals between agencies. Social work can sometimes involve legal preparation as well, which would require immaculate writing and verbal communication skills to uphold in the court
