In my earlier years, I would often write about how I felt or what was on my mind. I was openly known as the girl who kept a spiral notebook nearby and a pen handy. It did not matter where I was, or who I was with, I would often become inspired by my surroundings, and begin writing. Some teachers were fond of my consistent writing and some became quite annoyed with me writing about different topics that had nothing to do with the curriculum. Although, in the school where my mother taught, many of her english graduate coworkers would give me pointers on how to better my writing and become a successful author. One difficulty in researching writing dysfunctions is that the term writer 's block and writing anxiety (or apprehension) are often used imprecisely or interchangeably (222). According to the Webster-Dictionary, writer’s block is the problem of not being able to think of something to write about or not being able to finish writing a story, poem, etc. Rose explains how following the rules and outlines of writing can cause student writers to block when constructing a paper. For example, Rose inquires that many students have problems with the introduction, therefore they should move on to the body, and finish the introduction towards the end. Ann Lamott’s essay examined the chaos of first drafts. She implies that even some of the most experienced writers start off with shitty first drafts. She argues that some of the worst, first drafts can be molded into clear and brilliant second and third drafts. In Sondra Pearl’s essay, she analyzes the writing processes of unskilled college students. She questions in what ways a college student could better their writing. From the essays, it has been identified that these author’s work revolves around making unskilled writers better at writing. Within this chart, I would write down all of my main ideas and supporting details. Now that I am older, I use similar strategies to help me write. I begin with turning on upbeat classical music and writing an extreme rough draft. My first draft’s construction is done at random. I usually tend to write down any and everything that comes to mind. I allow all of my thoughts on the topic to freely pour out on the page without any sense of direction or organization. The draft consist of anything related to my topic. This includes research, my ideas, other people’s ideas, and etc. After I get my extreme rough draft together, I cross out what I don’t need and I also direct the order of my sentences. I may reconstruct some sentences or simply add more details to my statements. After I finish that, I put the classical music to a low volume so that I am able to rewrite my paper, correct my grammar mistakes, and organize my thoughts. By this time, I am writing my almost final draft. I say almost because in most cases, I change my mind about certain sentences, or I add more supporting details. I tend to struggle with the end of my introduction paragraph. This causes me to write the beginning of my introduction first, and as I begin to construct my body, I add on to the end of my introduction as I get further through the paper.
