I hate writing! Writing is the repetitive routine that is not attractive or engaging. Indeed, as I start to write, I lay on my bed tiredly, blankly stare at the computer’s screen, and secretly pray for magical words and thoughtful ideas to rush into my dumb brain. In fact, as an English learner, it took me a huge amount of time and effort to learn how to write. I migrated to the United States four and a half years ago from Vietnam with my family and started school without knowing any English. The learning process was extremely difficult, since I do not only have to understand the language, but also to master and apply it into writing. Despite several struggles that I faced, I explored different methods become a better writer through various exercises such as learning grammar rules, reading, and practicing writing along with thinking creatively and transferring thoughts into words.

Revision is my most favorite part of all, since it changes and also differentiates a good and bad writing piece. The revision does not only simply mean to correct the wrong usage of grammar, but also use improve the writing as a whole when dissecting it into several tiny parts. Those revisions might be a retouch of a sentence, an expansion of ideas, or an omission of an unnecessary details. There are just so many things that can be done to one writing that would possibly transform an ugly and incomplete first draft into a great and beautiful final writing. In fact, I view the revision process as the last step of the makeup process, putting on the matte power. Without this last step, no matter how good the makeup is, it can easily be washed away with the unavoidable dirt and oils. Similar concept applies to writing, a writing idea or thought can be extremely exceptional yet with the lack of revision, it is not any different from a ruined makeup

“Revising” In Joseph Harris’s article, “Revising”, Harris emphasizes the differences between drafting, revising, and editing, and the impact that each of these elements has on drafting a well-written paper. Harris dubbs the first step “drafting”, or formulating the content of the paper. Drafting involves the development of ideas into a larger body of text that can be easily followed. The next step in this process is “revising”, or further developing and adjusting the current body of text. Harris reaffirms that revising is not simply editing for spelling in grammar, but rather revising focuses on building upon the text that is already developed.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

While revision is reconsidering the arguments made as well as the evidence. That is why writing is a process because it cannot be done in one step. Writers must go through a process to produce a decent paper.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

By this I mean that I talk about something and then I write down a quote that backs up my thinking after my analysis, but then I do not think of going through the quote to explain why it is important to my claim. I do this time and time again because I do not realize that my audience cannot read my mind on so I need to explain more thoroughly my connections from my writing to my ideas. A huge piece of the writing process that I never paid much attention to until this quarter is revision. I have always looked over my work before turning it in, but in English 111 I learned something that has help me catch so many little mistakes that I would not have found before.…

I feel that writing is a good subject to be familiar and practicing in frequently, it is a necessary tool to communicate properly. Although, if I were to be truthful I’d have to say that I am not the biggest fan of it due to the fact that it bores me and I have trouble figuring out what to say. So I find it hard to enjoy writing because most of the time I am just struggling to concentrate because I don’t have much more to say about a topic.
