Reflection: The Latest Proposal Of My Writing

Superior Essays
In the beginning of the semester I was very unsure on how I would appeal in writing, I’ve always been very cynical of my writing because I never thought it was good enough for a college standard. Insanely nervous about entering with writing, it was not as terrifying as I sought it to be. The writing was very straight forward- choose a topic and to stay relative to that topic throughout the semester. Since the topic I chose was very dear to me and I actually did have passionate it about, it made it much easier for me to form bond around it. Like stated before, I took on challenges to test myself to even more extents by using styles that I weren’t so confident on using before. One of those styles were using the end the paper how it started. In …show more content…
The audience allows me to think more about what I am going to write and to take consideration in the work I write. Like when working on the community I need to consider my audience not just from the United States perspective, but instead I needed to understand the perspective to successfully connect to that global audience. The purpose helps me find a comfortable direction to follow when addressing the audience and getting them on board to my proposal. My purpose also gives a reason to the audience to want to pay attention to what I may want to pitch. When asking for donations to fund more projects, I need to address the audience that has money and address the audience that doesn’t have much money but find an even ground for them to both find a way to donate for the greater good. I personally paid attention to not asking for certain amounts but giving rewards for milestones that were hit. Allowing both groups to donate anything but the group with the most benefits from both to help reach the milestones quicker, and pushing them to continue to donate since when people experience accomplishments, most likely those people will continue to push to receive that ultimate …show more content…
There is much more that I need to focus on because I’m not very strong in that way yet. Run-on sentences is one thing I still need to some serious work on, although, I understand what a run-on is and can easily distinguish one. For an example, the first paper I wrote, I was marked down for three run on sentences in my paper. The run-on sentences were very easy fixes. Getting around to my third paper, there were no marked down run-on’s in my paper. However, the other papers did get marked down with run-ons because admittingly I didn’t pay as much attention to my work, which leads me to other weaknesses. Paying more intensive attention to my work, although this is not a writing weakness. Paying attention to my work and catching mistakes is an overall weakness as well as planning my writing out accordingly. To be very blunt, my writing could have shown growth in many ways if I just sat down and took a little more time to write and revise than the usual. I think one strength I can easy the most I’m proud of is constantly interpreting my creativity into my work. Throughout this semester I was given the option to choose my own social issue that I was passionate about, and in general being someone who loves to express things that I am passionate about. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it out to be. The papers were relatively easy to focus in

A very vivid memory I have is writing my advocacy paper, during junior year of high school. I spent countless hours working on it. My rough draft wasn't very strong , so I had put a lot of extra work into it. My topic was how the high school start time should be pushed to a later time because of lack of sleep by high schoolers. It was a very intruiging topic because I always felt I didn't get much sleep as I should, throughout high school.…

When writing a paper of any kind, I have learned that re-reading and revising your own paper is very important. After writing what some would consider your first draft, one should read and re-read their paper many times, this helps you determine whether or not it flows the way you what, and if you have all the information you would like to include. This process also helps the writer make sure before showing anyone what they have written, they have gotten everything they would like for the audience to know within that paper. The writer should re-read and revise their writing as many times as needed, until they are satisfied, I have learned if you as the writer are not convinced, and/or have learned from your own writing nor will your audience.…

Out of the three essays I wrote during the English 122 class 2016 spring semester my favorite was the Ethnography essay at the beginning. I chose it because it required me to push beyond myself to get out and get the information I needed from someone else. The writing process was really hard for me at first but after I got further into it and sought out for help it became easier. I also feel like this was my best paper as far a prep and assistance goes, I meet with teacher, talked with a tutor, did the peer reviews and even though I did get a 158/200 I do feel proud of my work ethic during the planning process. The Ethnography essay challenged me as a writer and as a person who is going to start a nonprofit business one day this assignment helped me to gain the confidence and humility to ask questions and things of others to forward my gain an know that it is okay and to be comfortable in doing so.…

I learned a lot more than what I thought I would from this course. As I look back on my first assignments, I know I couldn't have absorbed everything that was being taught, but I realize now that I have developed an important skill set. I have also learned how to be more clear and concise as an effective writer. These writing principles that we discussed throughout this course helped me to be more critical of my work, evaluating based on the clarity of the presented material and how it is received by the desired audience. This has been the most appreciated course I have taken because it has provided me with the concrete information that can be applied to other academic areas.…

Throughout the fall semester I have written over five papers for English 101. My weaknesses were shown in my writing, but you also taught me how I can better my work. The mass amount of comments that I received after each paper always frustrated me, it took a lot of swallowing both pride and fear to rewrite my papers. I felt that I was could come up with both good writing ideas and points, but one thing I struggled most with was my ability to analyze quotes. I struggled with all of our class’s learning goals at some point in the semester, and I feel that I have gotten better at all of them.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. In the class, I started out by grasping at glamorous words to throw on a paper, as one would catch fireflies in a night sky. Feeling unsure of what was going on and doing what i thought was expected, I knew I was not meeting the challenges on my own. During the process, our class shared papers with the one other, including our teacher, for an editing process to find where our paper needed more flexing in order to improve its weaknesses. Through reading aloud joined with personal readings of my work by others, my blurred eyes received a brief rest from the tireless repetition of searching for the seemingly camouflaged errors through the combined words I once formed. Getting the feedback from my peers along with the teacher with their fresh eyes enabled the once hidden errors to be spotted, which allowed the…

As you review the final product of my writing assignments, I hope that you will notice the growth and effort that I have committed myself to the process. After 10 weeks in the University Writing Program 001Y, which essentially is a lower division writing course, I will admit that I do regret not having taken this class earlier in my studies (I am currently a third-year student). I have gain many valuable skills such as learning the importance of mapping my thoughts, creating a structured outline, appreciating the revision techniques, and acquiring new perspectives on writing that I aim to utilize in both academic and creative writings in the future. Prior to the course, I simply define “good writing” as one that has a distinct objective.…

With all of this emphasis placed on reading, I wasn’t really exposed to writing until the end of my primary school education which hindered my writing incredibly. I remember being in fourth grade and having all of these creative writing assignments that I was making less than average grades on, and being frustrated because this was the first time that I wasn’t exceling at something. At that time my imagination was expressed through reading fantasy stories instead of writing them. I was fascinated with the stories that I read and that my class mates wrote, but I could never produce material that was equivalent without copying parts or thoughts of other people’s stories, and I wanted to be completely original. After fourth grade, the writing kind of died down until I got to junior high, where it became one of the most important things taught in my English classes.…
