“Leadership and the Importance of Writing Well” Reflection

As a writer I judge myself on a scale one to ten, I’m about a six, which is my honest opinion. My current writing ability could offer me not many jobs because, I’m just learning more and more about writing and well, right now, my skills are not the greatest as I want them. Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

“And what matters in this journey-at least initially-is not what kind of car you’re driving, but where you end up.” This quote spoke to me on levels beyond writing. When you get to the end of your life, you will be less concerned on the little aspects of life, but more on the journey and outcome of life. I find “The Importance of Writing Badly,” an incredibly mind opening essay. I have truly never thought from Bruce Ballenger’s point of view.…

Even though there is more room for me to learn in future classes, this class has boosted my confidence a great deal. The area that I think that i have benefited from this class the most is in writing. I did take a little bit about of the reading, it thought me how to understand what point and author is trying to get across. When I am writing a paper now i know what person I should be in and how to draw in an audience. It is not like I am the greatest writer now,…

    1) My overall opinion on how this semester is going learning Latin is positive and I think it is going very well. I have improved my daily study routine by adding the tried and true method of old fashion handwriting vocabulary words into my notebook. The class was introduced to the Memrise online resource in the language lab and that has definitely helped me identify my need to learn to spell Latin correctly. I have no problem picking out the correct meaning and translating individual Latin words if I see it in a list, but writing from memory has always been difficult for me.…

I tend to use vague words such as it and thing; thus, leaving the reader thirsting for more description. I also like to add in words that aren't needed, such as, I believe, personally, I feel, I think etc. Secondly, I find myself using contractions like they are going out of business. Most of the time I do not realize I am using them until I proof read my paper. Lastly, I struggle with writing fluently.…

Dear, Professor Hampton I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my math course, I’ve never been very good at math, I’ve actually always struggled with it tremendously. I failed my previous test and it brought my overall grade down. I think I know the underlying problem besides not knowing my multiplication facts but, at times, in the classroom i find my mind wondering off and I have to literally talk to myself and channel out the distractions. My first question, what are some other methods I can use to channel out the outside distractions because it’s beginning to do harm to my school work. I’ve also been having a hard time connecting to my writing in my writing class, when i write what i want, I put much effort into and really take advantage…

During my high school career writing was not recognized as much as it is now and there wasn't a huge place of importance on it. In high school the only writing I was concerned with are essays. However, now in my college career I have to take other texts into consideration. For example, writing an email to my professor will take a lot more thought rather than writing an email to my high school English teacher. I believe this because pre college relationships with teachers are much more informal.…

On the other hand, I when I am given a topic to write about I think it is harder to make the paper interesting and enjoyable to read.…

However, when I walked out of that session with him and all my classmates, I took a lot of helpful tips with me to instill in my writing. I was not expecting to learn so many different things from a person I was meeting for an hour and a half. It seems that much of L.’s strength in writing rests in her feelings about writing. She feels that through writing she can create anything and that she others enjoy listening to and/or reading her writing pieces. Her courage to write about anything and persistence in working on her journal, from start to finish, without stopping reveals her depth of focus and vision of what a complete piece of writing should look like.…
