Reflection Paper About English 101

Writing assignments are the most stressful, hardest, and most annoying type of work I have ever had! My first story to prove my thesis came in the form of a demonstrative speech I had to write for my speech class, where for the life of me, I could not even pick a topic. Though writing my speech was difficult, a harder example of this came as a process essay for my English 101 class. Still, these two examples prove minimal when compared to the horrendous onslaught that became my English 101 Mid Term Exam! Yes, writing assignments are indeed my Kryptonite, and now allow me to explain in greater detail of what makes these tasks so evil! My project was to complete a demonstration during a speech, and I just couldn’t pick a topic. Try as I may, I kept coming up empty. As more time went by, my stress level rose and rose, so I decided to put it off for a while to let a topic come to me, but it just wasn’t working. I didn’t understand how I could complete the hardest of tasks in the garage with ease, but a five minute speech was just beyond my grasp. To make it worse, we had to use props, which I have never done before. Now this was the least of the three examples, so let me tell you about my demonstrative essay for my English 101 Class! …show more content…
In order from the least to the most painful was my demonstration speech with props for my speech class, which proved to be far more difficult than any summer course should be. Then came my process essay for my Speech 101 class, and how I found out hard it was to break down a single task into words on paper. My final example of woe came in the form of a midterm for that same English 101 class, where all work had to be done at school with that nightmare of a clock ticking away. Though I love to write, anyone can plainly see that writing assignments are a stress filled, annoying, and insanely difficult task for me to

My experience to English 1101 was totally different from my high school English class, but it was also a good learning experience. Making the transition from high school was a lot different because of the fact that college you only have the class for a semester and in high school you have the same teacher all year. I learned a few things last year in English 1101 that I didn't know. I learned how to do a film analysis on the movie The Village and how the colors from the movie had a meaning behind them. We also learned from the movie how the position of the camera means something.…

Assignment after assignment would pile up in my homework folder till the night before they were due. As the teacher would hand out the sheet, I wouldn’t even look at it I’d just put it right into my folder, hoping it was a joke that I didn’t actually have to write. Writing has always been a struggle to me. Creating ideas, brainstorming has never come easy. I could never connect with my writing, forced to put words on the paper about a topic I had no interest in.…

This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.…

During my first years as a high school student, I usually procrastinate on my assignments because I couldn’t balance the workload between my most challenging classes, which was my Honors English class and my AP European class. As a result, I end up having to choose between them as to what assignment I have enough time to do. That school year was one of the hardest for me. I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

This semester has flown by; however, English 101 has shaped my writing in so many ways. Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Rhetoric Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

This class has been one of the most interesting, uplifting, and fun courses I have ever taken. Coming into this class I was unsure of myself due to the fact that I had taken English 101 in high school as a dual enrollment course and didn’t feel that it was up to the level and what an actual course would have been. Not only did I believe we would be graded far harder, but I thought we would be forced to write far differently from any of the assignments we were exposed to in English 101. After my time in English 102 with you, my expectations have been greatly exceeded. Not only did I excel both my writing and public speaking skills through the rhetorical analysis, controversy analysis, and public argument, but I was able to be taught…
