Reflective Essay: Biofabricated Meat In The Classroom

Improved Essays
When i first entered this course i expected it to be as hard as a college class. What i did find out was that it was much more streamlined and functioned as a class on how to manage your time and deal with big projects. I was really efficient in writing and being creative in my papers but not so much when it came to research papers. We mostly wrote research papers in this class so instead of using my strength in creativity i mostly had to do research and be genuinely interested in the topic i chose. I was used to taking online english classes where i had a lot of time to complete assignments so i felt very independent. College writing was similar on how i felt that i had enough time to complete assignments but the deadlines felt more real. …show more content…
The main difference between the two is that biofabricated meat is grown artificially, in a lab, while natural meat is grown naturally, animals. It 's important to be able to compare your topic and contrast it so you have a full scope of your topic and know that there are those differences and similarities. Comparing and contrasting two concepts goes a long way in not only writing papers but in life in general. Most of the time people assume a certain thing is similar to another without actually analyzing why it 's not similar, the contrast. I brought an open mind when i compared and contrasted both natural meat and bio meat to give a more leveled approach and to see both concepts eye to eye. One of the things i mentioned in the paper was that biofabricated meat today is still in its prototype stage and hasn 't fully developed yet but the concept is there and the technology is coming. During the editing process for the final i didn 't change much because i thought i did a when i edited the paper the first …show more content…
Never before have i written a paper of this length about a researched topic. By combining all the previous papers i wrote about this topic i was able to jot down and plan an idea of how to organize a big paper. By taking specific things i wrote from the other papers it made it easier to have the good ideas in the paper without having to re-research it. Although i did research more when i wrote the major paper, taking my previous ideas helped majorly in cutting down thinking time. Writing a paper this big definitely makes me feel more prepared when i have to write papers in college because i built a foundation and now have the experience of writing long papers. Using in-text citation is probably the most important thing to remember because without in-text citations the whole paper will sound like claims with no evidence. Using both opinion but at the same time having evidence behind it makes the paper seem more personal and enjoying without the feeling that it 's been written by a robot is what i think i did originally. I noticed some grammar issues that i quickly fixed to finalize the major paper for the portfolio

Eating Responsibly Instead of Recklessly The most pressing issue facing American health today lies in the increasing number of obese people. When analyzing the two texts Don’t Blame the Eater and Against Meat, both authors messages combine to form the idea that food is much more than the enemy and we must take responsibility for our own eating failures. The messages presented both convey how our parents influence our food choices, the lack of good and bad food, our own “conscientious inconsistency” with eating, and are presented in distinctive ways. Against Meat identifies how we are in control of our choices and we should be more aware of what we are eating.…

In the fall, I took the English 1001 class. I knew the class would personally be a struggle for me from my past writing attempts. I knew I had to pass this class in order to graduate, so it had a lot of importance to me. It was overwhelming to me throughout the class. Towards the end of the class, though, I saw a significant change in how quickly and smoothly I could write an essay.…

I haven’t taken many online classes so I am unsure how this class compared to others or how to improve it for other online students. This class definitely met my expectations and exceeded it. When initially going into this class I thought I would be doing nothing but writing papers and stories, but having the smaller practice assignments where wonderful and interesting! After taking this course I definitely say I have a good understanding of AP style without needing my stylebook.…

How would I describe this class? I would probably say without hesitation that this class is grueling, exhausting, and stressful (just kidding). Although, I would have to admit that somewhere in the back of my mind, I realize how valuable a class like this is. Nowadays, everywhere I look, people are glued to their phones or other devices; when I was in middle school before everyone had a smartphone, people actually read books in their free time. It is quite sad how many students of this generation will not pick up a book unless it is assigned to them.…

Before I entered this class I was an optimistic and eager student ready to learn some college level writing skills. This course has helped me figure a lot of my strengths as a writer. I learned that I have good ideas and can be a good writer when a topic interest me. I have also learned that my grades usually reflect on how well I followed the criteria of an assignment. I realize that I have unique points of views on certain topics and often like to give my own thoughts and explanations about a topic. I also know how to be straight to the point with whatever message I try to convey.…

I think that my biggest success in this course was remembering how to actually sit down and write papers/essays/reports. This was my first semester in college after being out of school for a decade and a half. I did not realize how much has changed, and how much I had forgotten until I had to submit my first assignment. I’m not sure if it is funny, or if it is said that when I went to school the first time, was taught to hit the space bar twice after each period, use footnotes, underline titles, and the bibliography went at the end of the paper to complement my footnotes. Through this course, I learned how to do things modernly and properly.…

In a writing-based program, there are many challenges but there are also advantages. One of the challenges that students face is time management (Chambers, 2016). Students will need to make time within their schedules to complete the coursework on time. Often adult students are working full time and managing a household prior to starting college. These students will need to express with their families, and others involved in their everyday life, how important this is to them so that they understand and support the needed time to complete assignments.…

For millennia, humans and animals alike have hunted for prey animals. However, with the recent advances in the world, hunting is not necessary. Domesticated animals such as cows and pigs are herded to supply the populous with a sustainable meat supply. Hunting still remains, and so do domesticated slaughterhouses, so which is more ethical? Hunting, although seeming less ethical, is actually better than slaughterhouses, as the hunter chooses how he kills the animal, and gets closer to nature, and the wild animals have better lives.…

When it comes to writing; I have never really had a preferred method or process. For the most part I usually just try to force ideas out onto paper in a somewhat organized manner. I have always had a serious problem with procrastination and staying on subject, so if I do not find myself interested in what I am learning I always seem to zone out. Even when it comes to subjects I enjoy writing has never captivated my interest, and when I do manage to write something it is always terribly disorganized and hardly makes any sense. As of this year I have been working at paying closer attention in class and working on my writing skills as a whole.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
