The Importance Of Work Study For Trio Upward Bound

Decent Essays
For the summer of 2016 I decided it would be a great idea to do work study for Trio Upward Bound at Delaware Technical & Community College. While there I did any errands that had to be done, record attendance, or file papers. This experience met my expectations as I had expected to help my supervisor in any way possible and do any office work that needed to be done. By only having done this, I knew I had contributed to the program because even the littlest help can save others time and work. Having done this work study was not a difficult task for me as I possess few skills and knowledge that helped me through it. Because I am a very organized person, I had the patience and was able to file papers without any problems. Additionally, having

It is a great pleasure to recommend Rachel Sitasz for admission to the Edward Hospital Student Volunteer Program. She is one of the most empathetic, kind, and exceptional humans I have encountered in my 14 years of teaching. I teach Rachel in my 8th grade advanced ELA class. Her academics, character, innate curiosity, intrinsic motivation, ethical standards, and unwavering desire to give back, have put Rachel in a class of her own. In fact, for the first time in over 25+ years, the eighth-grade team created a brand new end-of-the-year award for our graduation awards assembly.…

Upon entering college, my high school career has set me apart from being a “normal” graduate. My unique personal interests, like volunteering at the animal shelter, define me as a passionate and hardworking individual. I have taken on a special interest in my friends at my local animal shelter, and with my free time, I enjoy helping wash dogs, playing with puppies, and cleaning kennels. The time I spend there is not only beneficial for the shelter, but also for me. I have learned the pay off for working at the shelter is worth a lot more than a few service hours.…

Having gone through what I did, I never truly had a plan for the future. I knew I had to attend college but it was not until I was recruited by the local TRiO program that I truly believed that there could be a future for me. ConnCAP/Upward Bound was established by the Higher Education Act of 1965 to help low-income first-generation students realize their full potential and attain their goal of completing high school and obtaining higher education. The teachers and students I met through this program are who I call my second family.…

Humility has been one of the most important characteristics that I think every person should have. The Upward Bound community is a remarkable organization where this characteristic is teached and applied in all the aspects. Firsthand, I know the feeling of helplessness during hardship; from living paycheck to paycheck in a single parent home, witnessing my grandfather become ill, and being physically assaulted by my father as a child. In each experience, I had neither control over the circumstances affecting my life, nor a confidant, which created the feeling of isolation. Although I have always been self-motivated and remained positive to endure hard times, it was not until I enrolled at Spelman College that I realized the value of community and a sense of control over one's life. A career in epidemiology, for me, means the avenue by which I can offer a sense of control to those experiencing adversity, and improve lives.…

Reflection Essay I had no expectations as to what I was going to learn throughout this experience.
