Wonders of the Brain Of the 78 organs in the human body, the brain is indisputably the most important organ of all. From performing basic functions to enabling humans to learn and think in extraordinary manners, the brain does it all. The brain, being the control center and mastermind behind the body, is incredible. However, this fascinating organ has baffled many scientists due to its complexity. In order to understand to decipher and comprehend the brain, it is necessary to understand its importance, how it learns, problems it can encounter, various diseases it can face, and how to maintain its health. The first step towards understanding the brain is to realize its importance as a necessity for the means of survival. Although some organisms …show more content…
To start off, “Huntington’s disease, also called Huntington’s chorea, is a relatively rare, and invariably fatal, hereditary neurological disease”(Fine 214). As a result of being hereditary, rare, and fatal, Huntington’s disease reaches an extent of seriousness on par to many other diseases. In fact, Huntington’s disease often leads to mental disorders such as dementia to schizophrenia due to its effect on mental health. The severity of it can be sensed by the following quote:”[Huntington’s disease worsens] over the next few years and [progresses] to random, uncontrollable, and often violent twitchings and jerks”(Fine 214). In other words, those with Huntington’s disease will display symptoms of minor jerking motions in their early stages that will slowly escalate to very violent fits. This makes Huntington’s disease even more devastating because it implies that the sufferer no longer has control over their body anymore. One of the most impactful reasons for the decline of mental health is from too much stress. According to the article, “10 ways to keep your brain sharp this summer”, “stress destroys brain cells and damages the hippocampus”(10 1). As previously stated, the hippocampus is responsible for learning and storing memory and by damaging it, severe consequences will follow. So by placing stress onto the hippocampus, the degeneration of the condition of the hippocampus is significantly catalyzed. One solution to destress oneself is by doing an activity that relaxes oneself, such as drawing or taking a walk. Also by taking a walk one is also able to benefit by exercising, another form of prevention since “physical exercise reduces the risk of disorders that lead to memory loss”(10 1). Just the act of physical exercise alone will greatly mitigate and stifle the impending memory loss as well as other mental health issues.Therefore from reducing stress and exercising more, the mental condition of the brain can be healthily
