All societies have beliefs in supernatural forces, religion, which are focused on helping people make sense of the world around them. Whether it be magic or sorcery from witches to priests; it is all the same as each has a function in society. However, religions rely on the powers of the supernatural they have a purpose within the culture. Moro states that we as humans recognize the frailty of life because we must always account for each crisis and we must have control of this frailty so we turn to witchcraft, sorcery, magic, or divination. The belief that one can be present without the other is a falsehood as magic and sorcery are one and the same. Magic is believed to be holistic good for society as it is controlled by and individual to sway an outcome. While sorcery is based on the shadows, as “a morally ambiguous practice often considered a deviant act.” Sorcerers can use magic or sorcery if they are to be believed upon the definition itself a sorcerer like Merlin was holistic and legend wise used magic to create a better kingdom along king Arthur while fictitious (pop culture wise) sorcerers and witches like Harry Potter and Hermione used magic to save the world. While sorcerers that used black magic or sorceries are those of Jafar and Solomon though they are fictitious they used their power to negatively affect society. While divination is a type of magic it’s primarily for good for those that seek answers to the unexplained.
