Wellness was addressed many times at my clinical site, Kingston (Sylvania). As soon as I walked into the building I could tell that the environment was something I would want to be around. Florence Nightingale’s theory of environment focuses on taking are of the resident’s environment to reach healthcare goals. The noise level stayed very quiet at Kingston, and I’m sure the residents enjoy that. We were playing a game called Fitgo and during the game, the activities director turned on some music. I could tell the residents really enjoyed that music because the noise level increased. Washing hands is another important way to keep resident’s environment safe. Making sure residents are comfortable, getting enough nutritious food, giving them hope, and conserving resident’s energy are just a few ways that have an impact on Florence Nightingale’s theory of environment.
