Another thing that we hear a lot about on the internet or health shows on tv are things called superfoods. Many of these super foods include beans, acai berries, blueberries, chia seeds, and many more. Superfoods are advertised as these magical foods that are the key to easy weight loss, energy, and mental focus but the truth is that these foods won’t do any of that on their own. These “superfoods” are more nutritious for us than most foods but that’s it, they are just healthy foods. Beans, for example, are a good source of fiber, protein, and nutrients but eating them like they’re going out of style won’t alone cause you to lose more fat or anything magical. They should be incorporated into a balanced diet.

First off, people need calories to survive. Calories are our source of energy and we get them through the foods that we eat. We consume calories from eating and we expend calories through breathing and exercise. When we consume more calories than we expend it causes us to store the extra calories as fat. That is called a calorie surplus and in order to lose weight you need to be at a calorie deficit. That doesn’t mean you should reduce your calories by one thousand overnight.
