Honolulu made walking and texting illegal in July of 2017. Anybody in Honolulu, Hawaii who would cross a street or highway while using any electronic device can be hit with a fine of up to $35 according to the law. Do you think walking and texting should be illegal? This could be dangerous for everyone around because you can get injured, the driver could get injured, or even others cautiously walking across the street close to you could get injured. BUt some people also think that there shouldn’t be a law because well it’s common sense to pay attention while walking. If you walk and text its just as dangerous as driving and texting so why do it?

Well if it was your fault you would get hit with a fine. In the article, Honolulu Law, It states When you break the new law the minimum fine would start at $15, but for repeat offenders it could cost $75 to $99. For the first offense of a higher rate it would be $100, $200 for a second, and $500 for a third. This shows why you should have common sense and not break the law. More evidence would be located in the article, Reading This While Walking? In Honolulu, It Could Cost You. This article states that the Honolulu walking and texting law will take place on Wednesday, this helps police fine any pedestrians $35 for viewing their phone, tablet or any electronic device while crossing the street. So if you have any common sense, you would know that you shouldn’t walk and text if you don’t want to get hurt or get hit with a fine. They might say that it is just common sense and people should just understand. This is very close to what I was saying but they do not think it should be a illegal to walk and text. Some might say that if someone gets hurt, then, they will learn their lesson and not do it again. This is not true, because they may do it more then once and constantly pay or get terribly injured. You can use this money for so many things that you might actually need, like groceries or clothes. But now people only do the right thing if the wrong thing becomes a law. So this is why it should be a law so people stop getting hurt. Poeple who disagree hopefully now understand that if it isn’t a law more poeple will continue to do it and continue to get

Today everyone is glued to their phones and it is no surprise the urge to pick up your phone in the most unappropriated situation is so common. It is a primary law in New Jersey and many other states, that the driver is prohibited from using any hand-held devices while driving. Nevertheless, people will continue to peek at their phone at any chance they get. Theoretically speaking, if an accident was to occur and the driver was texting the driver should be held liable for any resulting injuries or damages with sufficient evidence. However, if the sender of the message never sent the message to the driver, the driver would have never picked up the phone and caused an accident.…

In the article Cellphone dangers for walkers by Jodi Mohrmann it discusses that people that text and walk while on cellphones are becoming just as dangerous as people who text and drive, often walking into streets or walking into others. The researchers say that from 2005 to 2010 the number of accidents that have happened from walking and texting have doubled, and that the number of emergency room visits is on the rise. I chose this article because researchers from the university of Ohio state suggest that manufacturers create a cellphone that locks during moments of movement. I disagree with this suggestion, and believe it is an unnecessary on the fact that people just need to be more aware of their surrounds, focusing more on what they hear and see.…

Would it be worth it to get into a terrible accident to simply send one text message, Snapchat, or DM? Americans are so consumed with their technology that they couldn’t possibly put it down for more than 5 minutes. In an attempt to fix the problem, Ohio has created a law that states if a driver is suspected of texting or using a cellular device, they will be pulled over and fined. However, people are still getting in wrecks and creating bigger problems in their lives. People need to simply take a step back into reality instead of keeping their eyes on the screen.…

Although texting and walking is harmful, some may argue that there are other solutions to this problem. In England, some lampposts have been padded to soften the blow for walkers who run into them with their cell phones. Although this is a creative solution, it costs a lot of money to pad all of those lampposts and isn’t effective. This is another reason why texting and walking should be banned.…
