We now have standardized curriculum and if you don’t know the standards you flunk.We have standardized tests called the common core that seem to be more about grades than actual learning.Are the common core standards good for education in America?56% Say Yes and 44% Say No,I agree with the 44% because most of their opinions matched my own opinions such as it being too difficult,it takes away from learning and it can be rough on the learner’s special needs if they are learning in standardized ways.Many of the people who thought the common core was a good ideas felt it was pushing the american school systems in the right direction and helping us become more revolutionary in the schooling systems.The common core started in 2009 and since then 5 states have not adopted to the common core standards and many states accept very few parts of it.Most students hate the common core because they feel it discourages creativity,discourages reading fiction,narrows the curriculum,the …show more content…
Since 1990, children have become less able to produce unique and unusual ideas. They are also less humorous, less imaginative and less able to elaborate on ideas;from Rachael Rettner. In a world where the word unique is becoming cliche we need to add some color into our education system we need to teach outside the box and about life. “My intention is that all kids have talent and we squander it ruthlessly…… creativity is as important as literacy”Sir Ken Robinson on ted talks we really do squander our student’s creativity because we are afraid of being wrong but in all actuality kids are not afraid of being wrong.It is in human nature to make mistakes we learn from them but standardized schooling makes trial and error seem inapropriate for all ages ”If you're not prepared to be wrong you won't come up with anything original”.Our school is flawed in the sense that we have become more like robots in learning than individual
