The Importance Of Voting

What are some issues in the United States that you care about? The issues that I care about is how bad America’s education is, how expensive universities can get, healthcare, and the lack of good doctors in America. I care about these issues mainly because affects my family and I. Since I am a young adult who is just starting to go to college, I care about this country’s education system and the costs of it. I also care about the the costs of healthcare because as I grow older, I am going to take on more responsibilities and this is one of the things that should concern me. These can all be influenced on who we vote for whenever election time comes around. I am sure that there a lot more of people that are in the same situation as me. Yet, …show more content…
This has been going on for a long time now. The voting turnout for people between the ages of 18-24 reached an all-time low in the 1996 and 2000 election with about 32 percent. Later in 2008 it jumped to around 44 percent, but sadly fell back down to 38 percent in the 2012 elections. As opposed to citizens above the age of 24 where their percentage is around 60 (Bureau). The young adults should think of the importance of their voice in a different. If one person says “I am not going to vote, one vote is not going to do anything”, and the next person says that and this thought continues one. At the end, you will see that about less than half of the young adults did not vote because each one of them thought that their voice won’t matter. Imagine they did not think that way, and they actually voted during the presidential elections. There are about 31.5 million people between the ages of 18-24 in America which is about 9.9 percent of the America. Out of that 31.5 million only about 11.9 million people voted during the 2012 elections (MarketingCharts). That amount can be enough to swing an entire election in one president’s favor. Many of the issues that are in America are related to the young adults. So won’t it make sense for those people that are directly related to the issue voice their opinion and show everyone else what is actually going. Instead, …show more content…
Think about that in this way, if you do not vote for a presidential candidate that has plans that do not apply to you, you are going to have to stick with a candidate for at least another 4 years until the next elections. What if something that did not apply to you now applied to you in the next year or two? Whether you like it or not you are going to have to stick with the presidential candidate that got elected until his or her term is over. Some people might be better voting for a presidential candidate not because of what they will do right now. Instead, they should vote for a presidential candidate that will address their future needs. There was a survey of a thousand people between the ages of 18-34 taken and 77 percent said that they are most likely to vote (LoGiurato). I am certain most of these people are thinking about what the next presidential candidates can do for their future. There was a study that showed people begin to think about their future in almost every perspective in their early twenties (Henig). If that is the case, you should also think about somebody that will also have somewhat of a say in how your future turns out, the president. It would be to your benefit if you choose a presidential candidate that has a plan that help you out the most in the

The Voice Of America in Chains Voting is a large part of what America is today. “Government of the people, by the people, for the people”. The voice of the people is what makes the big decisions in America and mostly through choosing who will represent us in our government in elections. This makes the vote valuable, because it has the power to make decisions and change outcomes. The basic principles our Founders sought to ground the American experiment on—citizens deciding how they would be governed, leaders subservient to their populaces—depends upon every person the government affects having a voice. Because those below 18 are barred from voting, young people oftentimes feel disenfranchised. They aren’t incorrect in that feeling: It is hard to have no say in how the ship of state is steered when we are hurt by every school budget cut, every elimination of an afterschool program, every step the government doesn’t take to invest in the future young people will inherit. It is fundamentally unfair that we the quality of our schools, the health of our environment, the richness of our opportunity depend upon a government that doesn’t have to listen to…

According to an article on The Cincinnati Enquirer, studies have shown that voting is a habit to begin early. It was found that if people don’t start out as voters when they are young, they are less likely to ever vote. One of these studies included a Yale University study in which it was discovered that students shown how to operate a voting machine were more than twice as likely to vote as students who weren’t shown. Lowering the voting age would both increase voter turnout and further educate citizens about the voting process, in turn causing them to vote more responsibly than some young adults today. It is for these reasons that I strongly believe that the voting age in the United States should be lowered to sixteen years of age.…
