This weekend, I had the privilege of volunteering at the Gallagher Charitable that is hosted by the baseball and softball team each year. I have had the chance to volunteer every year, however this year was much different. In years past, aside from standing around and making sure families knew where to go, I did not do very much. This year, however, I served as the Spanish translator for the event. I felt that having this job made me truly see that I had done a lot in years past. Having taken Core 9 this semester, I found that there are a lot of connections I can make between this volunteer opportunity and this Christian Humanism Core. The main themes I found during my time volunteering on Saturday were giving back to the community and being a service to others, love, and respect for all [Thesis]. The Gallagher Charitable is a large Christmas event hosted on campus. This event allows or low-income families to come in and enjoy a nice breakfast. During this time, children and families receive brand new coats, toys, books, food and much more. Our expected turnout this year was a total of 82 families totaling for up to more than 400 people. This being said a lot of time and effort goes into planning for the event. On Saturday December 3, 2016, I woke up much earlier than I do on most weekends.
