Principles
Volunteers can be engaged in different forms, for example, project-based or ongoing. Volunteers can be students, those who have a full time job elsewhere, community members or retirees. There is no limitation as to who can volunteer for Save the Children as long as requirements from both sides are met. A volunteer agreement is entered into between the individual and Save the Children and, in most of the cases, there is no financial compensation for a volunteer.
Important: Volunteers are not employees and will not have a representation and supervisory role. They will never be engaged on task/assignment where it is only appropriate for Save the Children’s employees to perform. Engaging volunteers where full time employment is needed, is not encouraged.

All volunteers should take the Personal Safety and Security Course before starting its volunteer work with Save the Children. Volunteers should report accidents or incidents to an SC staff, or when an emergency situation arises. Similarly to its staff, Save the Children is responsible for providing the volunteers with a safe working environment and conditions. They should always be informed of any information related to safety and security and received a full briefing during their first day.
Training and Development
Save the Children will provide each volunteer appropriate training and information on the works of the organization in the lives of children and their families that will help you effectively carry out your role as a volunteer. All volunteers will undergo an orientation and a short course on the role of volunteers in Save the Children.
