It matters because there is a difference between reading something that is exciting and makes you want to read again and an instruction manual. It is important that your writing should have more personality than you do. A strong, well-defined voice is compelling and builds a bridge between you and your audience through your work. Finding your voice can be hard, but it is a skill that can be perfected in time. When developing your voice, just like finding a purpose, you want to consider your audience. What do you want to communicate to your audience? Developing a voice is just finding a way to uniquely put words together and giving your work different outlook.
