Reflective Essay: Personal Identity And Blue

When I was about 11 years old, my dad gathered the family to teach us about a new concept that would greatly impact the way we communicated with people. He introduced us to a color-stream of personalities. Through this, we could categorize everyone in the family according to the criteria provided by the color(s) that matched their strongest qualities. Red was assertive and strong-willed. Green was analytical and reserved. Blue was caring and people oriented. I was a combination of red and green. Although enlightening at the time, it was eventually revealed to me the limitations of understanding people exclusively through the filter of personalities within my family. Being the third of eight, most of the things I 've ever done had been done before at least once in my family. I had often been told that if I go to college, I would encounter people with different personalities and from many walks of life. I knew that being a pioneer had significant meaning in terms of viewpoint. In light of this, I began to marinate on the idea of actively changing my own perspective. …show more content…
I was a home school "student" who walked for less than a minute to "class" every day, a kid that only understood the world outside through my imagination. Then I became the popular kid in public school that could not quantify the concept of acceptance and comprehended the world around me only through the eyes of predecessors. Now, I have blazed the trail for those in my family who want to withstand a long distance commute in an effort to attend a high achieving private school. These experiences have helped me understand the necessity of perspective change. Without it, I believe it would be very difficult for me to adjust to any new environment. As I continue through my educational endeavors, I don 't only want to continue seeing the world through a different lens, but I also hope to influence others to actively do the
