My Best Value

My top value is balance. Balance is extremely important because without the knowledge of the importance of it and the ability to perform it my life would be a complete chaotic mess. This value plays many important roles in different aspects of my life from sports, school, and personal life. In my case being a young adult in college that is part of an athletic program and that also enjoys to party and have fun, balancing is a must have value. The short term goals I have include finishing this semester with a 4.0, surviving fall conditioning for track and creating memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The long term goals I have from having this value is graduating with a high GPA, finishing my track career with more All-American honors than I can count and …show more content…
It’s important to me because I see it as a way to show people that they can trust me. Being an honest person helps you grow as a person and allows you to connect with people on a different level. The one short term goal I have for being honest is to be honest about everything no matter what it is. I have the tenacity to try and spare people’s feelings even when they deserve the honest truth. A long term goal is to always be honest and continue to gain/build those strong relationships with people in my life. Obviously being honest 100% of the time is extremely challenging and when trying to be honest you encounter many different barriers. One is believing that the easy way out of a situation that I am in is to lie. Another barrier is not wanting to hurt someone’s feelings and the last one that I tend to overlook is sometimes I don’t believe is being dishonest is omitting or leaving out the truth. Ways to overcome this is to put myself in the other person’s shoes and think about how they would feel about being told a lie. I personally hate when people lie to me so I only think it’s fair not to lie to them. Everyone deserves the

I value honesty in life. From my past story I can say I have witnessed the destruction that lies and unspoken words can cause. As a matter of fact, a song called Words I Never Said by Lupe Fiasco the intro and hook says “It’s so loud inside my head, with the words that I should’ve said. As I drown in my regrets. I can’t take back the words I never said.…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

In the essay The Ways We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson, she mentions on how she discovered that telling the truth all the time is nearly impossible because it would be living with some serious consequences. Throughout the history of the United States and other parts of the world, a high percentage of people tend to not be able to tell the truth when they are asked simple questions by members of their family or by their close friends. As telling the truth may have consequences, telling lies may have deeper consequences that cannot only hurt the person telling the lie, but it can affect the person being lied to. Being known as a liar can cause problems in a relationship because it will bring on trust issues and can also cause one’s partner to overthink…

In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson she discusses and breaks down the activity of lying into different kinds of lies. Ericsson goes into great detail of about 10 of them, but there are many more. Some lies are for your peace of mind and maybe still bad for both parties, and some are for the better of someone else’s feelings. Ericsson believes that even if you feel you are perfect, nobody is and still tell lies no matter big or small, we do it and at times are unaware that it is considered a lie. Individuals nowadays get to a point where they are lying and don’t know whether to believe themselves or others.…

Honesty is the avoidance of knowingly deceiving yourself or others. Honesty means not lying, cheating, or stealing, whether it is done with malicious intent or not. This holds true even in situations where dishonesty seems like the easy way out. Perhaps one of the least considered, and possibly most difficult, aspects of honesty is being honest with oneself. Truth telling is “the foundation of authenticity, self-regard, intimacy, integrity, and joy. We know that closeness requires honesty, that lying erodes trust, and that the cruelest lies are often told in silence” (Lerner, 1993, p.15). Truth telling is more than simply telling the truth. It is a way to build confidence and trust. I recently had the experience where two candidates applied for the same prestigious program.…
