The skills and knowledge of university students in the computer science program will help determine how far computer science will go in the future. The article “CS Education in the U.S.: Heading in the wrong Direction “looks on how American universities are teaching Computer Science program and how the applications used to teach those students affect how skilled a person will be in the computer science work field. furthermore, I agree with Owen Astrachan that “we should no more expect students to be expert or even journeymen than we expect our pre-med students to be able to remove an appendix after four years of undergraduate study” (Astrachan, 2009). Robert does not understand that Java is helping students to further the skills of computer science instead of working on skills that would take up the time students could be using to further their understanding of computer science instead of learning about past methods of computer science. By using Java the students can eliminate some of the struggles that computer science students faced in the past, for example “The lucky kids of JavaSchools are never going to get weird segfaults trying to implement pointer-based hash tables. They 're never going to go stark, raving mad trying to pack things into bits.” (Spolsky, 2005).furthermore, Robert wanting introductory computer science courses to focus more on the fundamental would make it harder for students that are using computer science as a base for other programs, like Owen said: “There is no one-size-fits-all solution to addressing the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in these areas”(Astrachan, 2009 ). Therefore, Robert idea that Java is causing the lack of computer science fundamental may only be the case in some computer science students because other student’s lack of fundamental may be the result of other
