Most importantly, the Amendment ensures a citizen’s freedom to expression. This freedom is violated by requiring the students to wear uniforms. Freedom of expression is not just about saying what a person wants to say, it’s about being able to express yourself through clothes too (Hoofnagle, 2012).

Uniforms often require; specific shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, ties, socks, shoes, etc. Uniforms have to be custom - ordered to fit the uniform code and have to be personalized to fit the school’s logo. School districts argue that uniforms are less expensive but the average cost of school uniforms is $249 . Sometimes schools help with paying for uniforms for students whose parents have a low income but students sometimes get bullied for being “poor” (Rausher, 2018).
