In our education system, students are struggling to do well in school. There are many disputes why students can do poorly in their school work, but parents who are not involved with their children in school, ultimately alter the way they function in their lives. These types parents can be broken down into two distinct groups, the uneducated vs. the educated. This has led to extensive research into the education and the incomes of families. Research shows that educated parents are more likely to be wealthy, so money can become an issue with their children. “Wealthy parents are often absent parents, and the kids feel abandoned. A feeling of resentment can sweep through their minds. No time to interact with their school or child leads to behavioral problems. And many more problems can arise if not dealt with properly. The importance of having parents, especially uneducated ones, supporting their children is not stressed enough. “The attachment formed between parent and child predicts the quality of future relationships with teachers and peers”, (Theory and Research). Kids can start to act rowdy or become socially withdrawn. Personalities are formed that can range from feeling insecure to unattached. “Behavior research shows that children from impoverished homes develop psychiatric disturbances and maladaptive social functioning at a greater rate than their affluent counterparts do”, (Theory and Research). Working can be problematic because making money can be the top priority. I had a friend in high school who has parents who are business owners. They are both well-educated and have a successful company, but as their company grew bigger, their time and attention would be to their career. I noticed my friend and her brother’s attitudes and grades were plummeting. It was replaced with an “I don’t care attitude”. This simple observation showed that this change in their parents’ attention, from them to their business, had expressively shown less involvement in their school work. But the rest of the school staff had problems with parents who had no education and expected the teachers to care for their child’s education. This incident with my friend was temporary, but many other students had problems with their uneducated parents being uninvolved. These students had problems that ran deep into their personality and way of life, rather than it being a temporary bad behavior.
