Two major facets were proposed in the study which are the in-class engagement and the out-of-class engagement. They also point out the seven principles proposed for good practice in college education, which are student/faculty contact, cooperation among students, active learning, prompt feedback, emphasizing time on task, communicating high expectations, and respecting diversity. All of seven principles are related to student engagement, and at the end of the study the authors successfully proved that the seven principles could be implemented by technology. Matt Kapko takes a whole different way on his article “Is Social Media Receiving or Killing Our Classrooms?” where he presents different points of view about the use of social media in class. Without taking a side, Kapko explores the arguments presented by professionals of the educational area which seem not to agree with one another as to whether or not social media is improving the engagement in class. The use of Twitter was good to give continuity for class discussions giving the students a low-stress way to ask questions and helping them to connect with each other and with their instructors. Time in class in short, so Twitter served as a tool to engage the same discussion outside class and to bring new perspectives on the subject to next class. Twitter can serve as a alternative way to ask questions and doubts students have. “Our results suggest that Twitter can be used to engage students in ways that are important for their academic and psychosocial development.
