After Montag escapes his society he discovers men like him, that were seeking truth in the dishonest world. Montag discussed with the men how they would change the world for the better after the war. One of the men, Granger, said “we’re going to go build a mirror factory first and put out nothing but mirrors for the next year and take a long look in them.” The citizens have been told lies for such a long time, they fail to grasp on to the truth. Granger claims that they need to “take a long look” into the mirrors, to finally be able to recognize and differentiate truth and lies. He wants everyone to take the time to reflect upon themselves, their emotions, and slow down to think about complicated matters. Since the people only watch television, they gain no emotion or mind of their own. Therefore if the television says to be happy, they will be. On the other hand, the mirror would just show their empty face though, forcing them to decide on how they feel. Additionally, Granger wants everyone to learn that their society is built on a lie, for it revolves around fake stories on a screen. When the citizens look into mirrors they realize this. When looked at by a person, it exposes truth, forcing people to think and reflect by themselves.
