Picture that person that comes to mind when thinking of someone who would be considered a friend. They might be described as kind, humorous, fun, enjoyable, etc., but a person cannot become a friend without building up a connection first, otherwise known as a friendship. A friendship is not just two people who get along well or have some involvement in the other’s life. A true friendship is a strong relationship involving complete trust, loyalty, and respect. These three aspects are key to forming an unconditional friendship. The three aspects, trust, loyalty, and respect, are characteristics of great importance when considering what a friendship is. Trust is a crucial part of a true friendship. Having complete trust in another person allows one to confide in the other, knowing that the information shared will stay with each other. Not only will both people honor the fact that the information is only for their ears, but the confider can trust that the other person will give their honest opinion and be comforting if necessary, always keeping each other 's best interest in mind. Respect is another important factor in a true friendship. Having respect involves the admiration of each other’s qualities and the understanding of their faults. Respecting each other is allowing the opinions of the other person without passing judgment and, depending on the situation, accepting their decisions whether or not the other agrees.
