Basketball Team Case Study

From reading this case, I had a lot of mixed emotional. The advocate of this case, Paula, is the captain of her school 's basketball team. It chronicles the accession of a new coach, Shirley, and the interpersonal battle and impasse that emerges as the bold plan and apprenticeship appearance changes. Paula was interpreted as someone who continued to complain about change. She has been there for 3 years as the Co-Captain so she is knowledgeable about the game and the team. The players used her as their voice because they upset with the coach. Shirley did not understand were Paula was coming from. Shirley came in as the head coach and wanted to change things that we were working for the team. Shirley does not use transformational leadership or …show more content…
The team was on board until things were changing for the worse. Shirley did not push them to practice and she just watched them when they played. She was supposed to show them how she wants things to be done. She was not charismatic either, she did not communicate nor did she motivate the team. Alan George Lafley also did not have charisma but he was able to lead his company because he had other characteristics of a leader. Shirley was a better coach for the soccer team because she knows the game. She was just placed as the coach for basketball, just like how a prince and princess are born into royalty. Of course, that does not mean they will be a leader from birth but they will have the opportunity because it is in their environment. As we discussed in class, people are not born leaders, they are made. We are born with characteristics, does not mean that we will use them to be a leader. We are thought by observing other leaders and learning from their mistakes. From my past papers, I’ve spoke highly of my new manager Ashley.
