Focus today is on Leader and Leadership development. While Leadership development is targeted to build organizational success, tied to business imperatives; action oriented, time intensive, leadership lessons are not always clear and can be nurtured only through self awareness and experience. However experience is not the only factor. As people may or may not learn anything from experience. It is on the individual capability. Leaders need to have active communication that helps those incorporate changes, formulate vision and strategies for impacting the changes. Therefore it is important to build self knowledge with a broader understanding of business. Also it is essential to set practical, target oriented strategies like a career development plan for a leader development. A 360-degree feedback provides a deeper appreciation for the business necessity of self understanding in Leader development. (Day 2000) Lack of self-awareness can jeopardize projects by contributing to sub-optimal individual performance, or by creating increased stress and anxiety in others (Dotlich & Noel, 1998). Previously company’s success was a measure of its property not people. With the advent of the globalized economy, the majority of the wealth in many organisation is in its employees (i.e. intellectual capital), thus if a large portion of that talent becomes frustrated with their co workers or bosses and quit the company the economic results can be frustrating for an organisation. It’s important to provide significant amount of time in developing relationships with team members and seniors and network with others in different functions which helps in better problem solving and team work implement strategy. Trust building provides effective teamwork in organisations. Leaders also learn through job assignments and active learning which is project oriented, enhances learning curve
