According to the 2015 online oxford dictionary, tone is defined as: “a modulation of the voice expressing a particular feeling or mood.”This is because the tone of your voice is very important because people don’t just listen with their ears; they listen with their entire body. For example when you use a rich and friendly tone of voice, it vibrates all the cells in a human body. It’s a pleasant vibration and hence, you will elicit a positive response from the individual. However, if you use a ferocious tone then you will evidently receive a pejorative reaction in return. Tone determines the emphasis of the words and if we lack tone, then our words can fall flat. For example, the question “who did this”, can dramatically change the reaction of others depending on how we choose to say it. You say it in a calm tone it which keeps the meaning of the original sentence. When you say it in an angry tone it changes the meaning and makes it seem like someone is in trouble. Your tone is helps people see the message that you trying to portray. The tone you use will determine the importance and seriousness of your question. It helps us communicate our feeling to one another without actually saying they word. You have to watch your tone because people hear tone before they hear the words. Meaning the will hear how you say something sound rather than what is being said. People recognize the emotion of voice,when people listen that the first thing that they look out for. Our emotions play a pivotal role in our tone of voice. It is important to keep in my mind that emotion creates sound. For instance, if I am happy, I will speak in a calm and charismatic tone but if I am angry, I will use an irritated and flustered tone. I can say in a very stormy tone: “I love you!” or I can say it in a loving and peaceful tone: “I love you”. That being said, emotions can awaken different tones in your voice therefore; we must have control. Tone can be a powerful tool in interpersonal communication that can help you express your emotion, feeling and thoughts.
As you can see tone plays a huge role in conversation and interaction that allows up communicate our feeling and emotions. . Nevertheless, the three pivotal key points to keep in mind when using your tone of voice are the following: tone has a greater impact than words, people 's reactions are determined a lot by your tone, and you control the tone.
