“Cooperation is what makes us human” vs “Thought

In the essay “Cooperation is what makes us human” the author determines the reason

why cooperation makes us human. The author analyzes by using specific examples the

differences that we have between animal’s cooperation and Human beings cooperation, while

in the “Thought experiment” essay the author point out two kind of life’s perception. While

analyzing these two essays, I had two important questions in mind, which is how and why these

two essays are related? From these two essays, I actually have made connections that I am

going to talk about later in my essay regarding similarity of their messages by using different

and specific examples.

In the “cooperation is what makes us human” essay, the author talked about

The environment that we were born in, and the genes

that we received from our parents represent the nature, while what we do with what we have

got is part of the nurture.

Similarly, both “Cooperation is what makes us human” and “Thought Experiment”

address the same topic which is Nature and Nurture (free will). First, animals don’t have the

freewill to choose if they want to cooperate or not. They have been place and create with their

instincts to guide them rather than to actually make a choice. It’s the same for babies who were

born either in a poor family or a rich family. They didn’t choose in which family they wanted to

be born, in fact, they are not responsible of their parents past, or the genes they received.

When we talk about nurture, we talk about free choice. The natural choice that human beings

make to help one to another, to share together, to rescue when someone need our help is part

of the nurture side. Even though you were born from stupid parents, in a very poor family, you

still have the opportunity to make a change for your life. We can decide if we want to

collaborate with other people or if we want to do it by

The main connection that they have towards each other is that they all are trying to prove the point that John Brown was indeed insane or as they put it, ‘mad.’ They each use several quotes and references in order to support their case. The nurture vs. nature debate is debated by many psychologist and sociologist. The nurture side of the debate is that a person’s traits are formed by the way one is raised. The nature aspect of the debate is that a person is born with and biologically given the traits that determine one’s perspective and personality. The authors of Psychology states that “Research reveals that nature and nurture together shape our development-every step of the way” (Myers 133). What determines Will’s personality – nature or nurture? I believe that nurture (environment) determines Will’s personality after all. In the film, it never talked about his true parents; instead the portrayal of his childhood events resolves the riddle why he carried such personality. Moreover, Freud emphasized that heredity is not enough to structure the personality because developing personality requires environmental effects and takes time to travel along from infancy to elder years with one’s self-determination. What is more, Freud also said that our body size may be greatly determined by biological information inherited by our parents, but our learning experience during childhood is what counts in shaping our personality.…

which is widely regarded as his masterpiece, he argued that, despite the Darwinian concept of the survival of the fittest, cooperation rather than conflict is the chief factor in the evolution of species. Providing abundant examples, he showed that sociability is a dominant feature at every level of the animal world. Among humans, too, he found that mutual aid has been the rule rather than the exception. He traced the evolution of voluntary cooperation from the primitive tribe, peasant village, and medieval commune to a variety of modern associations—trade unions, learned societies, the Red Cross—that have continued to practice mutual support despite the rise of the coercive bureaucratic state. The trend of modern history, he believed, was…

A Story can have many themes, and as we know, there are tons of stories on the world, so it is inevitable that some stories share common themes. For this essay, I would try to do a comparative study on Lenny Abrahamson movie “Room” (original stories by Emma Donoghue) and “Pillowman”, a play wrote by Martin McDonagh, as they both investigated a lot in humanity and taught us a life lesson. In the following, I would discuss three common themes between these two literatures, including how these literatures show us the complexity of human, why we should be positive towards our life and how bad it is for we human to harm each other. The first common theme is to show the complexity of human, and they both explained it in three sub-points: 1. Human…

Nature and Nurture in Prenatal and Infancy Every single human starts out in the prenatal period where they have been conceived by their parents. It is in that moment that development and the nature versus nurture debate begins for a living human. McLeod in his article states, “Color of eyes, straight or curly hair, pigmentation of the skin and certain diseases are all a function of the genes we inherit,” (“Nature vs. Nurture,” 2007, para. 3). Fetuses in the womb get chromosomes and all genetic material from their parents – that being inherited and being a thing of nature.…

Nature versus Nurture "Nature versus Nurture" is one of the oldest argument of all time in history and it still continues until now. Beckett (2002) defined the nature as qualities and characteristics which are transmitted to humans directly from parents through genetics. While, nurture could be explained as "all external factors surrounding human beings from birth to death" (Beckett 2002). Wherefore, scientists confirm that the factors which influence human behavior are subdivided into three aspects.…
