Studies suggest that mothers are the ones who tend to have a sudden decline in satisfaction after birth. For the fathers, it is more of a gradual decline (O’Brien & Peyton, 2002). So, does this mean that the decrease in sexual intercourse, after child-birth is inevitable? Hardly; despite these important and well-versed findings. There are key limitations to the form these studies. It is, essentially, impossible to determine that from these studies the decline seen after birth, would not have occurred, had the child not had a baby. Naturally, there is maturation process for marriage, this may have been mistaken for the effects of child birth. Some Studies, have decided to include non-parents. These studies have made this a control group as not equivalent. This typically makes sense, because it’s possible to view the changes experienced by couples without children. This is necessary, to compare and contrast the differences, in order to verify that there the potential difference if any. With these studies, they have indicated, the results indicated similar results. These studies suggest that both non-parents and parents typically experience declines that are similar (Huston & Holmes, …show more content…
There are not any implications that can be set to randomly assign couples to have children and not have children. When conducting research, it is also important to understand the potential confounds of any experiment. With this particular topic there are a few that were addressed earlier, however it is important to reiterate these to have an understanding and reach a sound construct of the experiment. The other researchers indicated that there was a clear deterioration in the relationship status after the birth of a child, however as indicated prior, that does not necessarily indicate that the child caused this deterioration. So, how do we determine that this is actually the case? In order to understand how they dynamic of the relationship changed, we must first understand the relationship. Obtaining knowledge about the couple and their dynamic prior to the birth of the baby, would provide key information and a better understanding of the potential change of the
